Decorating A Game Room

Decorating A Game Room

The kids have moved into the house and you suddenly find yourself in an extra room in the house.  Unless you absolutely need a home office, why not turn that extra room into a game room?  After all, you've worked hard enough, now it's time to play, and the game room can be full of excitement and fun.

There was a time when you couldn't afford the luxury of a game room unless you had a basement, and that usually meant a sofa and a pool table.  However, in the age of technology, a game room is more likely to have a large screen TV and a game console with lots of video games.  Few people still have a pool table.  One of the reasons is that most rooms are not as large as the basement, and most of the available space will be occupied by a pool table.

Since this will be a family room or a room where you and your friends gather to have fun, why not add a game table that you can use to play board games, perhaps?  A foosball table or an air hockey table.  It won't take up as much space as a pool table.  If it's within your budget, a music box can add some fun and atmosphere!

What is the best way to decorate this room?

What colors should you use?

And the background?

Here are some ideas you might consider.

First, be sure to use bright colors.

Stay away from dark colors - no one wants to play in a dark room.  Use "fun" colors like bright green, bright yellow, and bright orange, but try to only use orange as an accent color.  You shouldn't paint a wall entirely orange.  Bright colors will increase the level of excitement in the room, while dark colors will only bring sadness to the room.

Besides painting the playroom bright colors, you can also add a colorful frame.  There are so many styles to choose from!  If your game room theme is more geared towards board games or card games, find borders with graphics of tables, chairs, or perhaps poker cards.  If you can't find exactly what you're looking for, find fun, sexy, and festive borders.  You should also try to set boundaries that appeal to both genders.  Keep that in mind with colors, too.  In other words, try to stay away from colors like pink.

If the playroom allows, try dividing the room so your friends and family can easily move from one area of the room to another.  For example, you could designate an area of the room as the card and/or board playing area and place the table in that section of the room.  The other area of the room can be designated as a TV area.  Here you can play video games or watch the Super Bowl or other sports.  If possible, try to get something for everyone.

As mentioned above, if it's within your budget, a jukebox can add to the fun.

You can also use a stereo (maybe with surround sound?) to add music to the room.  Another interesting item is the karaoke machine.  Be sure to have plenty of words to sing along to, not only for kids, but also for adults!

Consider hosting a "game room decorating" party.

Invite your friends and family and get them involved in choosing colors, borders, games, music, etc.  Together, you can make this room the best room in the house!

Quick Inexpensive Bathroom Makeovers

If you think your bathroom could use a boost, you've got company.  Bathrooms are among the rooms most likely to be remodeled in a home, according to the Home Improvement Research Institute.  Homeowners spend about $4,900 on home renovations in the first year they own their home, and 60% feel their bathroom is "not good enough."

The good news is that there are ways to use your bathroom without spending a lot of money on remodeling costs and without replacing old fixtures.  Try these tips:

    clean start

You may be able to save on the cost of replacing worn-out toilets or tubs with a good cleaning.  A buildup of soap scum, hard water spots, rust, calcium and limescale can dull the appearance of a bathroom and make it look older than it really is.

Try a powerful cleaner designed for tough bathroom stains, to instantly transform your bathroom surfaces.  The thick cream adheres to surfaces and the granules penetrate deep into textured surfaces to remove dirt and stains without scratching.  Stay on top of your bathroom's appearance with maintenance products like the Continuous Toilet Cleaning System.  It allows you to get rid of the brush and never clean the toilet again.

    color touch

Use mold-resistant latex paint to add fresh color to your bathroom.  Be sure to use a trash can on water spots or stains before starting work, and pay special attention to detail areas, such as woodwork or trim around mirrors.

Home designers often say that the bathroom is a great place to experiment with color.  If your home has more subdued tones, consider using bright hues in the bathroom to help make the room feel cleaner and brighter.

Finally, add some decoration to the bathroom to make it less drastic and more comfortable.  You might want to hang some family photos on the wall or a framed picture or two.  Just make sure not to make the bathroom look too messy.  Remember, if you have limited space, home designers say less is more.

Glass Shower Enclosures What You Need To Know Before You Buy

Gone are the days when bathrooms were cramped, no-frills spaces with a simple toilet, sink, and standard-sized tub/shower.  Today's homeowners want spa-like bathrooms that offer both beauty and function.  An emerging trend is the clear glass shower enclosure that showcases elegant fixtures and rich shower materials, such as marble, soapstone, and granite.

Unfortunately, few people realize that ordinary glass is porous.

When hard water, soaps, and even household cleaners are combined with the heat and humidity typical of shower environments, glass can corrode and no amount of rubbing will remove the resulting stains and scales.

One remedy that homeowners can resort to is spray or wipe treatments to protect the glass.  But when these coatings fade, smudging, streaking, and erosion can occur.  The other solution, Guardian Industries' ShowerGuard glass, uses patented ion beam technology to permanently seal the surface of the glass during manufacturing.  With this new product, there is never a need to reapply protection and the look can be maintained with a soft cloth or damp sponge and most common household cleaners.

If you're in the market for a bathtub, here are some tips on what to ask your bathroom dealer or professionals handling your remodeling project:

    • Is the shower glass protected?

First, ask if the surface of the shower glass has a sealant or other protective treatment.  Standard glass can quickly become splattered and stained.

    • When and how is putty placed?

If your shower glass is tempered, learn what type of sealant to use and when to apply it.  Some glazes are applied after the glass is made, which may cause it to change color in a relatively short period of time.

    • Are there special cleaners to use?

Some glass treatments require special cleaners and techniques rather than regular household cleaners.

    • What is the term of protection?

Some glass treatments that spray or wipe to protect the glass can stop after two or three years, and reapplication can get messy.

Importance Of Bathroom Remodeling

I remember someone once saying, "If you want to know how clean a person is, visit their bathroom to see what they look like."  Many people will laugh when they see such statements, but it is the truth.  This claim is debatable, but it contains a lot of truth.

You see, to be thinking of remodeling your bathroom, you are one of the few people who know the importance of their bathroom and will not fall prey to the above statement.

There is no doubt that wanting to remodel your bathroom is a sign of cleanliness.  There are many people who do not take care of their bathrooms.  These people end up embarrassing themselves because when visitors come to their homes, they are likely to visit the bathrooms.  In such cases, if the toilets are not in good condition, you will end up creating a negative impact in the minds of the visitors.

In addition to the visitors coming to your home, it is also beneficial for you to remodel your bathroom - for cleanliness and for life.  It will help you because as the old saying goes - "cleanliness is next to godliness".  A clean bathroom is fun because it signifies cleanliness.

Looking closely, it is your bathroom that you wash to reveal your cleanliness.

If it's not in good shape, how can you clean yourself with it?  Won't it end up making you dirtier than you were before you used it?

In addition, a bathroom renovation makes your home more valuable than it was before the bathroom renovation.  This means that if you were to sell your home, it would cost you a lot because of the bathroom renovation you did.  Since you can't move the bathroom to your new home, it will be included in your sale and attract more money, especially if you do a good bathroom renovation.
